Job summary

The John Carroll University Police Department is seeking a Police Officer to safeguard students, staff and faculty in University Heights, Ohio. This full-time role emphasizes independent decision-making under JCUPD and University guidance, with duties spanning emergency response, crime investigations, and campus security operations.

The position requires Ohio Peace Officer Training Council certification, firearm qualification, a clean record, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Current, valid certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council as a sworn peace officer.
• Must be legally qualified to own and carry a firearm in Ohio.
• Clean background with no violence convictions or prohibited offenses.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Able to pass background, drug screen and psychological testing.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and written/oral communication.
• Ability to work in a diverse university environment.
• Weapon proficiency with annual requalification.

Responsibilities

• Uphold laws of the United States, Ohio, and university policies.
• Respond to emergencies on campus and support JCUPD operations.
• Investigate crimes and Title IX violations impartially.
• Produce clear, concise reports.
• Conduct proactive campus patrol with high-visibility presence.
• Address suspicious activity responsibly.
• Ensure security of university property and assist with events and parking.
• Enforce campus parking and traffic rules.
• Support gate, shuttle, and campus services operations.
• Assist with CCTV, alarms, and other security tasks.
