Job summary

Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, seeks a Campus Safety Communications Specialist to coordinate dispatch and information flow for emergency and routine calls. You will monitor access control, log incidents, and assist with administrative tasks to support Campus Safety operations.

The role requires an Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and a valid driver’s license, with 2–3 years’ dispatch/public safety experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of professional experience in dispatch, communications, public safety, or security.
• Experience in emergency communications is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional, courteous, and timely service via in-person, telephone, and radio communications.
• Answers calls on emergency lines and directs callers to appropriate resources.
• Dispatches emergency and routine calls using Campus Safety systems and prioritizes urgent calls.
• Monitors electronic access control and responds to alarms.
• Maintains daily communications and activity logs and documents incidents.
• Relays accurate info during emergencies and follows procedures.
• Performs data entry and maintains records supporting Campus Safety operations.
• Prepares reports, logs, and forms as required.
• Processes maintenance requests related to Campus Safety and facilities.
• Maintains records including parking, no-contact orders, and trespass notices.
• Provides information about campus buildings and key personnel.
• Assists with administrative functions for Campus Safety.
• Maintains professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external agencies.
• Participates in training to stay proficient in communications and procedures.
