Job summary

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression is seeking an attorney (Program Counsel) or non-attorney advocate (Program Officer) to support Campus Rights Advocacy. The role involves reviewing case submissions, drafting advocacy materials, and coordinating with multiple departments. A J.D.

or Bachelor’s degree is required depending on track. The position may require travel and some evenings/weekends. Salary ranges from mid- to high-60s for JD-qualified candidates, with a strong commitment to

Qualifications

• Proficiency in general First Amendment law and familiarity with its underlying principles.
• Knowledge of campus speech law is highly desired.
• Familiarity with due process principles.
• Experience with FOIA/state public records laws or discovery review preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and manage case submissions from students, student organizations, and faculty.
• Collect and review university materials to build incident narratives.
• Develop advocacy plans for designated cases with internal collaboration.
• Draft and review letters to universities and accrediting agencies.
• Draft public advocacy content including blogs, posts, and statements to reporters.
• Serve as primary press contact and conduct interviews as needed.
• File and track FOIA requests for case evaluation.
• Identify candidates for litigation in coordination with CRA and litigation teams.
