Job summary

RISD, the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, seeks a Public Safety Officer II to join its Public Safety Department, collaborating with Brown University and Providence Police to maintain a safe campus environment. This role supports students, faculty and staff through security, medical response, and escort services.

The incumbent will perform patrols, respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and participate in campus events, upholding RISD's commitment to equity and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Must pass a pre-employment background check, medical and psychological examinations.
• Must become a RI licensed EMT within two years of hire.
• Complete Field Training and Evaluation Program including CPR/First Aid, safe driving, OC spray, defensive tactics, batons and handcuffing.
• Strong communication and ability to work under stress in a campus community.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of campus security posts and geography for patrols (foot, fixed, mobile).
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide emergency medical care.
• Independently and collaboratively respond to calls for service (locks, alarms, violations, escorts, etc.).
• Conduct initial incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
• Operate dispatch and monitor camera systems and security posts.
