Job summary

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks Public Safety Officer II professionals to maintain safety and security of students, staff, and property across campus. Roles involve EMS response, patrols, incident reporting and coordination with local agencies within a dynamic college environment.

Requirements include HS diploma, background checks, RI EMT licensure within two years, and field training with CPR/First Aid and defensive tactics.

Qualifications

• Pass pre-employment background, physical, psychological and driving record checks.
• Must become RI EMT licensed within two years of hire.
• Complete Field Training and Evaluation Program including CPR/First Aid, safe driving, OC spray, defensive tactics, batons and handcuffing.
• Ability to work independently with moderate supervision and prioritize tasks.
• Must work well under stress.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Strong human relations skills with diverse community members.
• Clear verbal communication via radio and telephone to emergency agencies and officers.
• Maintain professional demeanor in uniform interacting with RISD and external agencies.
• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years security experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of campus posts and properties; perform security patrols to deter crime and provide education.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide Emergency Medical Care as trained.
• Respond to calls for service: locks, alarms, violations, escorts, parking issues, incidents.
• Conduct initial incident investigations and file reports with confidentiality.
• Inspect systems and facilities to ensure proper function.
• Work in Dispatch or fixed posts in residential buildings with camera surveillance.
• Operate assigned equipment: radios, uniforms, computers, vehicles, medical supplies.
• Participate in college events to foster department-community relationships.
