Nova Southwestern University is seeking a safety-focused security officer to provide crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus. You will observe and report incidents, monitor NSU property, and coordinate with local law enforcement as needed.

This on-site, non-exempt role requires strong communication, multitasking, and basic computer skills. The position includes weekend and holiday shifts with an hourly pay rate of $15.75.

Primary Purpose:

Provides a crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus by observing and reporting. Facilitates use of the campus by opening, closing and monitoring control of NSU property. Investigates campus incidents and occurrences. Communicates and coordinates with the NSU community the crime prevention goals of the Public Safety Department through personal interaction and other methodologies.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Detects and responds to safety hazards.

2. Provides physical inspections and investigations on campus.

3. Conducts security and safety audits.

4. Conducts accident and injury investigations on campus.

5. Completes activity logs and incident reports.

6. Coordinates with local law enforcement concerning the investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses.

7. Conducts fire system inspections and emergency response drills.

8. Provides for locking and unlocking access control for campus buildings.

9. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
1. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of bending, climbing, sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties up to 8 hours.

2. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.

3. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

4. Must be able to work all shifts including weekends and holidays.

Required Certifications/Licensures:

Required Education:High School Diploma or Equivalent

Major (if required:

Required Experience:Previous customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Parking enforcement specialist certification.

2. Previous customer service, public safety, security, or police experience.

3. Previous experience with Microsoft Office products.
