Job summary

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Police Department seeks a Police Sergeant–Patrol to coordinate department operations during shifts, supervise staff, and make critical decisions to keep the campus community safe. You will direct patrols, support dispatch and parking operations, and participate in emergency response.

The role requires 3–4 years of law enforcement experience, specific Wisconsin certification readiness, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years’ experience in law enforcement.
• Must have completed or be currently enrolled & will complete a WI Department of Justice Law Enforcement Recruit training course, and be eligible for certification upon employment.
• Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or a valid driver’s license from another state.

Responsibilities

• May supervise 2.0 FTE or more staff and oversee scheduling and performance.
• Engages in threat assessment/mitigation and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues.
• Develops directives for staff and monitors compliance with rules and regulations.
• Schedules resources to protect life and property and provide emergency aid to the campus community.
• Provides leadership, mentoring and coaching to unit staff.
