Job summary

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking a Police Sergeant – Patrol to oversee on-duty operations, coordinate sworn officers, and provide guidance to dispatch and parking support. The role requires ensuring campus safety, supervising staff, and making rapid decisions during emergencies.

The position is full-time, 12-month with state benefits; applicants must meet Wisconsin law enforcement qualifications, pass background, psychological, physical tests, and drug screening.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years’ experience in law enforcement.
• Must complete or be enrolled & will complete WI DOJ Law Enforcement Recruit training and be eligible for LESB certification.
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license or out-of-state license.
• Authorized to drive a UWL vehicle.
• Able to perform essential police duties.
• Knowledge of emergency vehicle operation procedures.
• Knowledge of evidence collection and report writing.
• Knowledge of crowd management techniques.

Responsibilities

• May exercise supervisory authority over at least 2.0 FTE employees.
• Engages in problem solving, threat assessment/mitigation and conflict resolution.
• Develops and communicates directives to staff and monitors compliance.
• Schedules logistics and resources to protect life, property, and peace.
• Provides emergency aid and leadership to the campus community.
