Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Sergeant to oversee campus policing operations and lead sworn officers. The role emphasizes community policing, crime prevention, and rapid response to incidents on campus.

The position requires a minimum associate degree or 60 hours, 4 years of sworn experience, and NC CJETSC certification or eligibility for out-of-state lateral hires. It is a full-time, essential duty role with a 48/36 hour schedule on Dupont shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an associate degree (or 60 hours of college credit) and 4 years of sworn law enforcement officer experience.
• Certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer or eligible for out-of-state lateral hires.
• At the agency heads discretion, up to 2 additional years of sworn law enforcement experience may be preferred.

Responsibilities

• Protects and serves UNC Chapel Hill students, faculty, staff and visitors through law enforcement and crime prevention.
• Patrols campus and investigates violations of state laws and local ordinances.
• Develops and implements preventative patrol techniques and performs specialized duties.
