Job summary

College of Charleston seeks a certified law enforcement officer responsible for protecting life and property under direct supervision. Duties include enforcing state laws and campus regulations, and performing specialized tasks with required training.

Applicants must meet SC Police Academy requirements within one year of hire and bring knowledge of SC criminal and civil codes. A high school diploma or GED is required; background checks and drug testing apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must complete SC Police Academy training and be certified by the Law Enforcement Training Council within one year of hire.
• One year of police or military experience is desired and knowledge of SC laws is expected.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned area diligently and monitor security conditions.
• Enforce South Carolina laws and College of Charleston policies fairly.
• Assist individuals seeking directions or information.
• Inform the relieving officer of pertinent information or concerns.
• Make preliminary investigations and submit accurate reports.
• Respond to assignments and emergencies promptly.
• Input reports into the computer system for storage and retrieval.
