Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a campus police officer to patrol the college community, enforce laws and college regulations, and respond to emergencies. You will observe and report safety concerns, assist EMS, and conduct traffic enforcement on campus and parking areas.

The role requires state BLEOST certification or equivalent and a valid police officer credential, with a strong emphasis on community safety and professional conduct.

Job description

  • Provide basic law enforcement services to the college-wide community
  • Patrol campus, parking lots, outlying College properties, and buildings to detect crime, violations, and security concerns
  • Enforce laws and College regulations
  • Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic
  • Investigate traffic accidents and file preliminary accident reports
  • Check vehicles for parking violations and College registration decals
  • Issue tickets for vehicular violations
  • Assist emergency ambulance services and provide emergency first-aid treatment
  • Provide emergency escort services
  • Observe, detect, and report unauthorized situations that may threaten campus safety
  • Provide College-related information to students, staff, visitors, and the general public
  • Provide security for special College events
  • Transfer College monies
  • Make arrests, prepare criminal cases, complete incident reports, and present testimony in court or hearings
  • Conduct crime prevention training programs
  • Perform related or similar duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Must possess a current police officer certification through the MS Board of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (BLEOST) or other equivalent
  • Must not have a criminal history
  • If prior military, must have an honorable discharge
  • If prior law enforcement, must not have been terminated for reasons of criminal activity, moral turpitude or other disciplinary grounds
  • Must not be legally prohibited from possessing firearms
  • Possess a good work history
  • Display a history of showing respect for the law and the rights of others
  • Free from addictive or excessive use of alcohol or drugs or use of illegal substances
  • Free from debilitating conditions or significant physical limitations or disabilities that would impair performance of essential duties or completion of required minimum training
  • Be psychologically capable of exercising appropriate judgment or restraint
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Law Enforcement Academy training certified by MS BLEOST
  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
  • Ability to operate computers, multiple types of motor vehicles, and specialized law enforcement tools and equipment
  • Ability to speak and hear to exchange information
  • Vision and hearing in the normal range with or without correction
  • Ability to restrain or subdue individuals and walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods
  • Ability to lift and/or move weights, including heavy weights over 50 pounds

Demonstrates proficiency in law enforcement practices, including crime detection, traffic regulation, and emergency response. Possesses the ability to enforce laws, conduct investigations, and provide safety training while maintaining a strong commitment to community service.
