Position Summary:

Portland State University Campus Police Officers are responsible for maintaining peace and public safety through enforcement of laws, City Codes and ordinances, performing traffic control, and providing emergency services on the Portland State University campus, including the adjacent community. Officers must support the University mission, provide essential law enforcement functions, and respect the rights and dignity of all individuals.

The Campus Police Officer will act in support of the University’s mission and goals, adhering to departmental policies. Responsibilities include:

  • Be a role model for all PSU core competencies, including excellent customer service.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training, maintaining all required certifications.
  • Exercise authorities per applicable laws and university policy.
  • Follow safety guidelines when performing duties.
  • Be knowledgeable and accountable for departmental policies related to job duties.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Complete proficiency evaluations as required.
  • Maintain qualifications required by PSU and DPSST.
  • Complete reports and paperwork as required.
  • Conduct effective and sensitive interviews with professionalism.
  • Maintain an On Duty 'Daily' notebook of all activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Lateral Officers:

  • DPSST Oregon Certified as Basic Police or higher.
  • US Citizenship within 18 months of employment.
  • 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No violations involving controlled substances.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Meet minimum medical requirements.
  • Successful completion of Field Training and Evaluation Program.

Entry-level officers must meet DPSST Minimum Qualifications within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field Training Officer qualified (FTO).
  • 4 years of experience as a police officer.

Work Days/Hours: Sunday to Saturday, 40 hours per week, schedule varies.

Total Compensation Range: Starting salary between $32.42 and $34.03 per hour, negotiable based on experience.
