Job summary

ACU is seeking academic peer tutors to support ACU students in achieving academic success by individualized and group tutoring across a broad range of courses. Tutors must align with the university’s Christian mission and mentor students in a biblically grounded approach to learning.

The role involves attending scheduled tutoring sessions, using active listening and questioning strategies, and helping students become more independent learners while maintaining professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at ACU (ACU student status)
  • Cumulative GPA 3.5 or above required
  • Currently enrolled in courses with class hours that fit 5–10 weekly hours
  • Ability to provide subject-specific tutoring across diverse courses
  • Ability to model professional, respectful interactions with diverse student populations
  • FAFSA completion required

Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled tutoring appointments
  • Provide subject-specific tutoring in individual and group settings
  • Recognize different learning styles and adapt tutoring approach
  • Create a welcoming, respectful environment for students from diverse backgrounds
  • Use active listening to assess student needs and pace of tutoring
  • Employ feedback and reflection to improve practice
  • Assist students to become more independent and self-directed learners
  • Refer students to campus resources when appropriate
