Job summary

The Chicago School in Chicago is seeking a Mental Health Counselor for a full-time, on-site role at our Chicago campus to provide counseling, crisis intervention, referral coordination, and wellness programming for students.

This position requires in-person presence, with responsibilities spanning direct counseling, program development, and collaboration with leadership and faculty to support student well-being and the learning environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Counselor Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
• Current Illinois license in good standing for independent practice (LCPC/LCSW/psychologist or equivalent).
• Experience providing counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health support.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling services to students.
• Evaluate concerns and determine appropriate counseling, support, or crisis intervention.
• Provide crisis assessment and support for acute mental health concerns or risk.
• Refer students to community providers and support continuity of care.
• Coordinate access to counseling resources, including emergencies.
• Develop and deliver wellness programs, workshops, and educational initiatives.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
• Advise leadership on wellness trends and opportunities to support well-being.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to facilitate access to resources and services.
• Serve on committees supporting student wellness and learning environment.
• Assess services to identify needs and inform program development.
• Maintain records and participate in ongoing licensure and education.
