Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Gardening Specialist in Landscape and Nursery Operations within Facilities Management and Development. Under supervision, you will perform specialized gardening work on new and high-visibility landscaped areas and support nursery operations.

You will collaborate with project managers, use landscape equipment, coordinate workdays, and maintain beds and turf. Two years of related experience and a California Commercial Applicator Certificate are required, along with a valid

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds; irrigation systems experience.
• California Commercial Applicator Certificate (QAC/QAL) and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Review landscape plans with project managers and select plant material.
• Execute minor landscape installations and renovations with various maintenance equipment.
• Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment.
• Plan and coordinate workdays; provide direction to student assistants and Grounds workers.
• Monitor plants, landscape beds, and turf areas; apply fertilizers as required.
