Job summary

Michigan State University’s Brody Culinary Platform is hiring a Culinary Platform Attendant to support daily dining operations in Brody Hall on campus. You will prepare, portion, and stock items across salad bars and hot/cold stations, while maintaining food safety and customer service standards.

Minimum requirements include high school diploma and at least one year of full-time kitchen experience, knife skills, and ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One year of full-time food preparation experience
• Knowledge of kitchen safety practices
• Ability to read weights and measures and measure ingredients
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers and fractions
• Knowledge of various cooking methods (sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, steaming)
• Ability to safely use knives and standard kitchen equipment
• Ability to prepare items with proper production timing for continuous service
• Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds

Responsibilities

• Set up, replenish, and maintain salad bars, hot/cold stations, and to-order service areas
• Assist cooks by combining ingredients, measuring portions, and assembling meals to order
• Apply proper food handling, rotation, and storage techniques to reduce waste
• Serve meals directly to students, staff, and guests with a friendly demeanor
• Collaborate effectively within a diverse team to ensure smooth dining hall operations
