Job summary

Western Illinois University on the Macomb campus seeks a Grounds Gardener to plant, transplant, fertilize and maintain flowers, shrubs and trees across the campus grounds. The role includes assisting with greenhouse upkeep and training student workers, with driving and licensing responsibilities as required.

The position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in all weather conditions, including winter snow and summer heat, while supporting campus landscaping efforts and safety

Qualifications

• Two years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubs, or trees.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pre-graduation applicants may apply; degree must be conferred at appointment time.
• Degree must be conferred from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Planting, transplanting, fertilizing, spraying, and watering on campus.
• Assist with snow and trash removal and support tree surgeons as needed.
• Train student workers and ensure licenses are maintained.
