Job summary

American University in Washington, DC, is seeking a Groundskeeper to perform grounds maintenance across the campus, including planting, mulching, weeding, trash receptacles, and litter removal. The role supports campus waste and materials programs and may assist with small moves and event setups.

You will operate small grounds equipment, participate in snow and ice removal, and work within a designated zone while potentially assisting elsewhere.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of relevant landscaping, recycling/waste management, exterior cleaning, warehouse, or construction experience.
• Valid and clean driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Weeds, cleans and mulches planting beds, practice integrated pest management, apply compost and fertilizers, cultivate soil, plants, and prune for neat beds.
• Removes trash, recycling, compost, and cardboard from designated sites and disposes of materials properly.
• Operates equipment including power mowers, sweepers, edgers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, weed trimmers, power washers, etc.
• Aids in performing intercampus moves and supports campus events, including moving furniture and setting out tables, chairs, and waste bins.
• Performs snow and ice removal and applies deicing materials to ensure safety of public areas.
