Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Grounds department is seeking to hire two Groundskeeper Is at its Main Campus in Mobile, AL. This full-time role involves maintaining lawns, flower beds, trees, and sidewalks, performing waste removal, and assisting with irrigation and equipment operation. Working days are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m.

to 3:30 p.m. The position requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions; valid driver's license and driving record sufficient for insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

• Trims and fertilizes trees and shrubbery.
• Mows and edges lawns.
• Picks up trash and debris from grounds.
• Waters lawns and shrubs as needed.
• Weeds and tends flower beds, gardens and lawns.
• Collects, loads, and hauls off trash.
• Digs holes and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees.
• Installs weed fabric and mulch.
• Stakes and guy trees.
• Performs solid waste collection campus-wide and transports to dumpsters.
• Assists in installation and repair of irrigation systems.
• Operates power washer to clean sidewalks and paved surfaces.
• Safely applies chemicals to lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and paved surfaces as required.
• May perform groundskeeping and custodial duties for a small group of buildings and grounds.
• May operate a tractor or other groundskeeping equipment and a vehicle to travel to work sites.
• Regular and prompt attendance; overtime as required.
• Other related duties as required.
