Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Grounds department on the Main Campus is seeking two Groundskeeper I positions. This full-time role maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, and garden areas, operates basic grounds equipment, and ensures campus appearance.

Working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; regular status. Candidates must follow written and oral instructions and possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Open until filled.

Qualifications

• Must follow written and oral instructions and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work a defined schedule and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Trims and fertilizes trees and shrubbery.
• Mows and edges lawns.
• Picks up trash and debris from grounds.
• Waters lawns and shrubs as needed or directed.
• Weeds and tends flower beds, gardens and lawns.
• Collects, loads, and hauls off trash.
• Digs holes and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees.
• Installs weed fabric and mulch.
• Stakes and guys trees.
• Performs solid waste collection campus-wide to include pick up of bagged, boxed or loose materials and transport by truck to dumpsters located throughout campus for unloading.
• Assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
• Operates power washer to clean sidewalks and other paved surfaces.
• Safely applies chemicals to lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and paved surfaces as required.
• May be responsible for performing groundskeeping and custodial duties in maintaining a small group of buildings and grounds.
• May be required to operate a tractor or other groundskeeping equipment, as well as a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites or transport materials.
