Job summary

York Technical College is seeking a Grounds Specialist III to perform a range of groundskeeping tasks, including operating mowers and related equipment, maintaining shrubs and lawns, and supporting irrigation and drainage systems. The role also supports maintenance projects across campus and may assist with signage, painting, and snow removal.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, at least two years of related experience, safety knowledge, and a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years of related groundskeeping experience.
• Or a 10th grade education with four years of related experience.
• Knowledge of safety practices relevant to grounds and maintenance.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in grounds and maintenance.
• Knowledge of turf maintenance, pesticide application, arboriculture and heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and read maps.
• Ability to use a computer to read emails, report time, and complete online or virtual training.
• Must possess a valid SC driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Operates mowers, string trimmers, edgers, and related grounds equipment.
• Plants, fertilizes, prunes, and maintains shrubs, trees, and lawns.
• Assists with irrigation, drainage, and campus maintenance projects.
• Operates campus vehicles as needed to support grounds operations.
• Assists in painting, signage, parking lot upkeep, and snow removal.
