Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a Construction Crew Supervisor to lead a nine-person grounds team within the Physical Plant Grounds department. You will manage campus and off-site maintenance, hardscape and landscape projects, and coordinate with campus partners and external vendors to deliver projects such as fountain maintenance and the Lot 60 pier.

This role plans and implements the department's snow removal program to keep roads, sidewalks, parking areas, and bus stops safe

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading teams or supervising employees for at least one year.
• At least one year of experience in landscape, hardscape, or outdoor facilities maintenance and operations.
• At least one year of experience performing or managing professional snow removal services.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other workplace technology applications.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills in a collaborative work environment.
• Driver’s license required – valid and meets UW Risk Management standards.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer safety needs in regard to snow removal during scheduled and non-scheduled work hours.
• Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
• Develops and schedules unit operational work plans
• Plan, schedule and implement the maintenance of campus concrete, asphalt, gravel paths and retaining walls
• Oversee maintenance of equipment utilized by staff and assist in procuring new equipment and supplies needed
• Schedules logistics and secures resources for the completion of established projects
• Plan, schedule and implement a maintenance program for fences and signs
• Communicates unit goals and objectives, implements unit operational policies and procedures, and provides training and feedback to ensure safety and compliance
