Saint John's University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Groundskeeper. The role maintains campus lawns, hedges, and trees, and performs routine maintenance on equipment while assisting in supervising student workers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; two-year degree in horticulture/landscape preferred.
• Experience in nursery/greenhouse operations or landscape maintenance preferred.
• DOT health card is required or obtainable.
• Basic equipment maintenance and repair knowledge; formal training in small engines preferred.
• OSHA safety standards knowledge is expected.
• Knowledge of horticulture methods, tree/shrub care, fertilizers, and pesticides.
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities for supervising student workers.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, rake lawns and maintain athletic fields.
• Assist in planting, pruning, trimming, and general tree care.
• Assist with snow and ice removal for sidewalks, stairs, parking lots; roof snow removal as needed.
• Repair and maintenance of departmental tools and equipment.
• Supervise and train student employees in daily grounds tasks and safe equipment use.
• Perform cemetery maintenance, open/close graves, and related duties.
