Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley’s Richmond Field Station is seeking a Physical Plant Laborer/Gardener to support landscape maintenance, refuse/recycling tasks, and general grounds upkeep. The role involves operating hand and powered equipment, performing landscaping and minor earthwork, and assisting skilled trades staff in a safety-conscious environment.

Expected duties include cleaning gutters, maintaining drainage, handling trash, and performing related tasks with adherence to campus

Qualifications

• Customer service skills and team-based work approach.
• Good attendance, punctuality and reliability.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Lift and maneuver items up to 100 lbs safely.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• Read/write basic arithmetic and follow written and oral instructions.
• Track jobs and use a computerized work order system.
• Work within small, confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform manual tasks, use hand tools, powered equipment, powered leaf blowers, walk-behind mowers, edger, and line trimmers. Maintain and repair landscaping, roads, walk ways, and paved areas.
• Dig and shovel earth, pour concrete, perform general gardening such as watering, weeding, pruning, picking up paper and debris, assist in conference room set ups, moving furniture, box moves, help skilled crafts staff with projects and moving materials including lifting up to 100 lbs.
• Performs all work following UC policies and safety guidelines; attends safety and training meetings and uses a work order system to track tasks.
• Use and track work orders through computerized preventative maintenance program.
