Job summary

The University of Michigan is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain campus grounds and outdoor facilities on the Ann Arbor campus. You will manage planting, landscaping, equipment, and routine upkeep to support a large university environment.

The role requires a valid driver’s license, a Chauffeur’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days, and a DOT medical card. A Michigan Pesticide Applicator license (3b/6) or the ability to obtain it is required, with weekend availability for winter

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of Groundskeeper experience.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with no more than 7 points.
• Must have and maintain a Chauffeur's License, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of start date.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.
• Must have and maintain Michigan Dept of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator License with 3b and 6 categories, or the ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and operation of grounds equipment (loaders, mowers, etc.).
• Experience transporting and operating pesticide spraying equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with or without accommodation.
• Weekend and holiday availability for snow removal.

Responsibilities

• Mix and apply herbicides and fertilizers in properly calibrated proportions.
• Plant and maintain annuals, perennials, native plants, shrubs and small trees.
• Remove unwanted vegetation by weeding or cultivation with hand tools.
• Collect, haul and dispose of refuse and debris.
• Pick up litter and remove postings from light poles and site furniture.
• Operate motor vehicles to perform assigned duties.
• Routinely operate grounds maintenance equipment (loaders, mowers, etc.).
• Routinely use hand tools (shovels, rakes, brooms, blowers, etc.).
• Perform preventative maintenance to equipment and sharpen blades.
