Job summary

Southern Utah University is seeking a Grounds Support role to assist the Director in managing campus grounds operations. Responsibilities include maintenance, planting, lawn care, and snow removal, with oversight of a student crew and irrigation system management.

The role requires knowledge of OSHA/EPA standards, ability to operate heavy equipment, and adherence to safety records. A valid driver's license and physical ability to lift 60 pounds are mandatory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associates preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, strong communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and MSDS regulations.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 60 pounds for 50 yards.
• Proficient computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
• Experience with grounds equipment operation and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with grounds operation in the Director's absence and oversee a student crew.
• Diagnose turf and water usage issues; oversee irrigation systems (Rain Bird IQ).
• Perform grounds maintenance: mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, and garden prep.
• Apply herbicides/pesticides and maintain application equipment.
• Perform snow removal and spread sand/ice melt; ensure safe walkways and roads.
