Job summary

Winston‑Salem State University is seeking a Grounds/Landscape Worker to maintain campus grounds, manage waste, and support event setup and teardown. The role alternates between groundskeeping, waste management, and moving equipment based on season and needs.

The position requires a valid US driver's license, roughly 2–3 years in groundskeeping, and the ability to work in adverse weather. Base hours are 40 per week, with a permanent full-time appointment in facilities.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and follow written or oral instructions.
• High school diploma or equivalency.
• 2-3 years of experience in groundskeeping or landscaping.

Responsibilities

• Perform planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass.
• Mow and trim lawns and shrubs using hand and power trimmers.
• Prune, spray, trim, and water landscape plants.
• Edge walks, drives, and buildings; remove debris on campus grounds.
• Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and streets.
• Transport tents and chairs for events and assist setup/take-down.
• Operate and perform minor repairs on landscaping equipment.
• Follow safety procedures and report when waste receptacles need replacement.
