Job summary

Western Illinois University is seeking a Grounds Gardener for the Macomb campus to handle planting, transplanting, fertilizing, and watering of annuals, shrubs, and ornamental plants. The role supports greenhouse upkeep and composting, trains student workers, and assists with snow and debris removal as required.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of garden/landscape maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubs, or trees.

Responsibilities

• Planting and transplanting, fertilizing, spraying, and watering annual transplants.
• Maintain flowers, shrubs and ornamental plants across the campus.
• Assist with upkeep of campus greenhouse and composting.
• Train student workers and maintain licenses through the state.
• Assist with snow and trash removal and work with tree surgeons as needed.
