Job summary

Stark State College Akron seeks a Maintenance Technician to keep facilities safe, reliable, and ready for teaching and daily operations on the Akron Campus. Under general supervision, this hands-on role handles upkeep, repair, and routine maintenance across multiple trades.

Typical duties include preventative maintenance, coordinating with vendors, and supporting ground operations. Strong skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC are expected, with hours Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of skilled work experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, or a combination of these fields is required.
• Current, valid Ohio driver’s license with a satisfactory MVR check preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and replace plumbing infrastructure, including water/sewage lines, sinks, fountains, toilets, and pipes.
• Troubleshoot and service electrical equipment (ballasts, outlets, breakers, wiring, lighting).
• Perform carpentry, painting, and drywall tasks; remodeling work as needed.
• Service HVAC systems, thermostats, air handlers, and related components.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections using technical orders and blueprints.
• Coordinate with vendors to source, order, and track parts.
• Support facility operations including custodial tasks and shipping/receiving.
