Job summary

The School of Visual Arts is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to perform hands-on repairs, routine trade work, and preventive maintenance across campus facilities in New York. You will work under the Facilities Manager and Director of Facilities-Operations to keep buildings, systems, and outdoor spaces safe, functional, and welcoming for the community.

Responsibilities include electrical, plumbing/HVAC, carpentry, and painting tasks, plus daily task management via the Work Order System.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2-3 years of direct facility or building maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and locksmithing.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, email, basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and digital Work Order Management systems.
  • Preferred: FDNY Certificate of Fitness (S-12, S-13, and/or S-95); cross-training and certifications as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform core trade repairs including electrical, plumbing/HVAC, carpentry, and masonry.
  • Manage daily tasks and work orders using the digital Work Order Management System.
  • Inspect buildings and grounds; identify maintenance needs.
  • Assist with events and heavy furniture moves.
  • Escort vendors and inspectors as requested.
