Job summary

The School of Visual Arts in New York, NY is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to perform hands-on repairs and preventive maintenance across campus facilities. Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, you will work independently and with a team to keep buildings, systems, and outdoor spaces safe and welcoming.

Responsibilities include core trade repairs in electrical, plumbing/HVAC, carpentry/locksmithing, and painting/masonry; plus duties in daily task logs, inspections, and assisting

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–3 years of direct facility or building maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and locksmithing.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, email, Microsoft Office, and digital work order systems.
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness preferred; cross-training and additional certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Core trade repairs and preventive maintenance across electrical, plumbing/HVAC, carpentry/locksmithing, and painting/masonry.
  • Log and complete daily tasks and work orders; inspect buildings and grounds.
  • Assist with event setup, heavy moves, and campus operations.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls and support department meetings and training.
