Job summary

University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an Assistant Director for DPS Events to oversee campus security operations, planning, and logistics for special events. The role conducts threat assessments, coordinates staffing, and ensures compliance with laws and university policies, reporting to the Police Commander over Public Safety Events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in event operations, public safety, emergency management, or security program administration.
  • Experience developing or implementing Event Action Plans (EAPs) and emergency response plans.
  • Experience conducting risk, threat, or vulnerability assessments for events or venues.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience, including oversight of staff or multi‑agency teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all organizations and individuals that perform event security functions on the CU Boulder campus.
  • Provide operational leadership for security at special events.
  • Develop and manage credential verification for personnel at events.
  • Supervise staff including the Program Manager, DPS Special Events, and student employees.
  • Evaluate security programs and report metrics to DPS Leadership.
  • Perform threat and vulnerability assessments for events and venues.
  • Create and update Event Action Plans (EAPs) and security staffing matrices.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities are ready for events and implement ICS structures.
  • Provide ongoing training on laws, policies, and guidelines.
