Job summary

UMass Boston's OEHS Office is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Technician to support safety, environmental compliance, and emergency management across the campus. You will work with faculty, staff, students, contractors, and administration to implement plans and guidelines and assist in inspections and audits.

The role includes training, outreach, and program development in areas like fire safety, laboratories, buildings, and construction sites, with a focus on indoor air quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or degree in a relevant scientific discipline with <1 year EH&S work experience, or substitutions as outlined in the posting.
• Experience with laboratory, office and facility based populations as required.
• Ability to obtain Certification in Industrial Hygiene, CHMM or CSP.

Responsibilities

• Assist in campus fire safety program including inspections, permits, drills and AED maintenance.
• Assist with EHS services in support of research and teaching laboratories.
• Respond to IAQ concerns, interview occupants, inspect areas, perform basic IAQ measurements and report findings.
• Perform regular fume hood and eyewash/safety shower inspections.
• Inspect renovation/construction sites and monitor dust/noise containment.
• Support staff with safety programs including PPE, confined space, fall protection, asbestos management, forklift safety.
• Assist in receiving and transporting hazardous materials and input data for inventory systems.
