Job summary

Saint John’s University, in partnership with the College of Saint Benedict, seeks a Food Production II to manage daily and special meals for Abbey residents and campus dining. The role supports safe, high-quality food service and contributes to catered functions across campus.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to standardized recipes, and efficient production planning, with opportunities to guide student staff and participate in department-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified in food safety, or ability to achieve certification within 12 months of hire.
• 1-2 years of experience in food production.
• Knowledge of cycle menus, computerized production records, and warehouse requests.
• Familiar with standardized recipes.
• Able to work cooperatively with diverse colleagues.
• Positive, professional image and good judgment.

Responsibilities

• Produce all regular and special meals for Abbey residents and campus students.
• Prepare specialty items for campus-wide catered functions.
• Maintain high quality and appealing presentation of food.
• Train and supervise food production student staff.
• Update and verify standardized recipes and production sheets.
• Record and request food supplies from warehouse.
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards.
• Operate or learn to operate production equipment (slicers, mixers, ovens, steamers).
• Attend department meetings and training sessions.
• Suggest menu ideas, cost-saving ideas, and service improvements.
