Job summary

Beach Shops in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a part-time Cook I to join the retail dining team. You will handle preparation, cooking, and service for the café, working mainly with student staff. Training, leadership, and mentoring are valued to foster a learning environment.

The role reports to Cook II and offers opportunities for growth within the kitchen, while maintaining food safety and quality standards across shifts.

Qualifications

• The employee must be 18 years of age or older.
• A high school diploma or high school equivalent is preferred.
• Two years of experience as a cook in a fast-paced quick-serve restaurant is preferred.
• The employee must have the California Food Handler Card or obtain it within 30 days of employment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to follow safety procedures are required.

Responsibilities

• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Comply with health department and OSHA procedures and regulations.
• Ensure quality and timely food preparation and service.
• Follow menus and maintain food quality and presentation standards.
• Store food properly and maintain temperatures.
• Inspect and test foods to ensure proper cooking.
• Maintain clean and sanitized work areas and equipment.
• Receive, verify, sort and stock supplies and inspect deliveries.
• Maintain records to determine amounts of food to prepare.
• Adhere to Beach Shops policies and procedures.
• Provide training to student and non-student staff as needed.
• Support sustainability initiatives, including food waste management.
