Job summary

Sodexo is hiring a Cook for The University of Alabama at Birmingham. You’ll prepare, portion, cook and present a variety of hot and cold dishes across meal periods and events, in a fast-paced kitchen aligned with quality and safety standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, meticulous food safety, and flexible shifting. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and 0–2 years’ experience, with opportunities for development and a broad benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
• 0 to 2 years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good working knowledge of food preparation.
• Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment.
• Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, cook, and present hot and cold items to Sodexo standards.
• Follow basic recipes and product directions for preparation, cooking, and serving.
• Taste products, estimate food requirements, and plan production accordingly.
• Significant walking or mobility required.
• Stand for extended periods up to 8+ hours.
• Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Attend shifts on time and be reliable.
• Other duties may vary by account and client needs.
