Job summary

Occidental College's Campus Dining department is seeking a Cook B to set up, operate, and close kitchen facilities. This role prepares items to order, follows recipes, and ensures sanitation and safety. The Cook B works under the Chef de Cuisine, Sous Chef or Food Service Manager and may assist with catered events as needed.

The position is non-exempt, full-time (40 hours/week) and represented by Teamsters. Pay starts at $21.27/hour with scheduled increases after 6 and 12 months, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Reads, writes and speaks English; able to converse fluently.
• ServeSafe or equivalent food safety certification.
• Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of special diets and common allergies; accommodates needs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google productivity tools.
• Detail-oriented; able to handle multiple tasks with accuracy.
• Strong communication; collaborates across teams.
• Ability to lead and train across functions.

Responsibilities

• Keeps items prepped, rotated, and stocked for assigned station; ensures timeliness and food temps.
• Stocks equipment and communicates needs for ordering items.
• Keeps stations clean and sanitary; handles safe food prep areas and equipment.
• Operates wood-fired pizza oven when assigned; bakes and plates items to order.
• Assists with catered events as needed; supports chefs and cooks on duty.
