Job summary

Allegany College of Maryland is seeking a Campus Custodian to join the Physical Plant team responsible for cleaning, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep of facilities. You will work with staff and students to ensure a clean, safe campus environment.

Responsibilities include floor cleaning, trash disposal, moving furniture, restroom maintenance, window cleaning, chalkboard cleaning, snow removal, and light security support as directed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED education required.
• Custodial, professional cleaning, and/or maintenance experience preferred.
• Familiarity with cleaning products, procedures, and equipment in general.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain floors in classrooms, offices and corridors using appropriate equipment.
• Collect and dispose of trash, scrap and garbage.
• Move furniture and other heavy items as needed.
• Maintain lavatories in clean and sanitary condition.

The Campus Custodian is part of a crew responsible for the overall cleaning, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep of the facilities comprising the physical plant of Allegany College of Maryland. The campus custodian functions as a member of the Physical Plant department, working cooperatively to maximize effectiveness of the delivery of services to staff and students.

• Uses appropriate equipment (manual and electronic) to clean and maintain floors in classrooms, offices and corridors.
• Collects and disposes of trash, scrap and garbage.
• Moves furniture, office equipment and other items which might involve the lifting of heavy or bulky articles.
• Maintains lavatories in clean and sanitary condition.
• Washes and cleans windows, light fixtures, ventilators and other items.
• Cleans and polishes desks, chairs, tables, cabinets and other classroom or office equipment.
• Participates in snow removal by shoveling, using snow blowers, spreading abrasives or chemicals, sweeping, or as otherwise directed.
• Maintains college grounds as needed, which could include: mowing, trash removal, and shrubbery care. May be required to work daylight shift to assist with mowing (seasonal).
• Washes chalkboards in classrooms and other areas.
• Unloads and delivers supplies if needed.
• Assists Security staff in security functions, such as locking doors and windows and/or responding to security issues as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
