Job summary

City-of-Pontiac- is seeking a dedicated janitor to maintain safe, clean, and orderly campuses within Pontiac, MI. The role involves cleaning offices, entryways, restrooms, floors, and outdoor areas, following schedules and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will be reliable, able to multitask, and capable of operating cleaning equipment such as vacuums and floor buffers. Prior custodial experience is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year commercial janitorial/custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to learn, use and maintain cleaning equipment and materials with skill and efficiency.
• Ability to learn and utilize tools in minor maintenance work.
• Ability to learn and utilize safe work practices.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

• Follows written schedules in performing routine custodial functions; Clean offices, entry ways, stairs, hallways.
• Removes trash from offices and other work areas.
• Perform all duties related to cleaning and decontamination of floors such as sweeping, mopping, striping, waxing, and buffing.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum, buffer, floor cleaning and polishing machines, blowers, etc.
• Sweep, mop, and wash floors; vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
• Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork; polish metalwork.
• Maintain restrooms.
• Clean grounds and courts of buildings; clean other outdoor areas. Picks up paper, glass, litter and debris.
• Clean and disinfects drinking fountains, telephones, trash cans and rest rooms.
• Make minor, non-technical repairs including replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, replacing audiovisual equipment lights.
• Light plumbing and electrical maintenance.
• Minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment.
• Reports Safety Hazards and observes campus to prevent vandalism.
• Removes graffiti.
• Responds to emergency clean-ups; makes minor repairs as needed; observes and reports maintenance needs.
• Sets up, moves, and adjusts furniture and equipment as needed.
• Assists with inventory and preparing lists for maintenance and replacement items.
• Assists with snow removal on building sidewalks and walkways.
• Compileswithandensuressafeworkstandardsandpractices.
• Performs other duties as required.
