Job summary

South Texas College is seeking a Lead Custodian to maintain high cleanliness standards and supervise custodians across campus. You will inspect work, secure facilities, train staff, and manage supplies and safety procedures.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of custodial experience, with strong communication, computer, and teamwork skills. Flexible hours and travel within the district may be required.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Windows environment and internet research skills.
• Must meet established cleaning standards.
• Thorough knowledge of custodial service-tools, basic maintenance, cleaning agents, custodial equipment, cleaning techniques and performance standards.
• Knowledge of proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
• Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
• Must be willing and able to work various hours, and rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, College closures, and holidays, as needed.
• Ability to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation or College-owned vehicles.
• Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Inspect work to ensure standards are met and take corrective action if needed.
• Open and secure facilities at scheduled times.
• Train staff on duties, SOPs, and safety.
• Monitor and assess work performance of custodians.
• Use CMMS to log time and tasks.
• Assist in moving and assembling furniture.
• Set up for special campus functions.
• Clean and disinfect all campus facilities; stock supplies.
• Vacuum, mop, and clean carpets and hard floors.
• Report building or equipment repairs to Custodial Supervisor.
• Manage and secure keys for assigned personnel/facilities.
• Issue and deliver custodial materials and supplies.
• Follow safety and health regulations.
• Operate preventive maintenance on College vehicles; report needs.
• Travel as needed within college district.
• Supervisor custodians and assist with custodial work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
