Job summary

Lesley University seeks a Counselor for its University Counseling Center to provide high‑quality, student‑centred counseling to a diverse body of undergrad and graduate students in Cambridge, MA. The role reports to the Director of Counseling Services and involves in‑person and teletherapy, crisis intervention, and collaboration with campus partners.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in counseling, Psychology or Social Work.
• Two to three years of experience as an independently licensed clinician with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills, particularly using short‑term treatment interventions and crisis intervention
• Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary care
• Excellent communication (verbal, written and presentation), organizational, problem‑solving, decision‑making, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills
• An understanding of developmental concerns, issues, and needs of college students
• An understanding of confidential and ethical matters within a higher education setting
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience and interest in working with one or more of the following areas: BIPOC communities, LBGTQIA+ communities, international students, neurodiversity, artists, expressive therapies, IFS, DBT, group therapy, spirituality in psychotherapy, mindfulness
• Must be currently independently licensed in Massachusetts
• Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, student‑centred counseling services to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Deliver direct short‑term individual, group, in‑person and teletherapy counseling and crisis intervention.
• Assess and recommend the most appropriate treatment and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Refer to outside resources when a higher level of care is required.
• Consult with faculty and staff regarding student behavioral and emotional issues and campus concerns.
• Collaborate with SLAD offices; lead educational programs and workshops; participate in orientation, admissions and outreach events.
• Engage in professional development to maintain licensure and enhance skills.
