Texas Christian University is seeking a Campus Chaplain for Brite Divinity School to nurture a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, and justice-oriented community. Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Campus Chaplain at Brite Divinity School nurtures a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, and justice-oriented community by offering pastoral care, curating worship experiences, supporting student spiritual formation, and collaborating across institutional life. The Chaplain will serve a theologically diverse population and must be committed to ecumenical engagement, interfaith respect, and the values of equity and inclusion. The Campus Chaplain has to be able to help create a safe, integrity-based culture that launches students into the world beyond the walls of the school. This position will be a cornerstone in the community of Brite and will be an anchor to how we inspire individuals to serve God’s diverse world as leaders in churches, academia, and public life.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
  1. Worship and Chapel Life
    1. Coordinates, plans, and leads weekly worship services in collaboration with the Student Success Department.
    2. Facilitates the participation of diverse theological voices, traditions, contemporary and liturgical styles throughout Brite Divinity School.
    3. Supports the liturgical calendar, including special services (e.g., Convocation, Holy Week, Advent, Days of Remembrance).
  2. Pastoral Care
    1. Provides confidential, compassionate spiritual and emotional support for students, faculty, and staff.
    2. Offers one-on-one pastoral care and crisis response as needed.
    3. Maintains a visible and accessible presence in the community.
  3. Spiritual Formation and Programming
    1. Develops opportunities for prayer, retreats, small groups, and spiritual practices.
    2. Mentors student leaders and supports student-led initiatives related to spiritual life and justice.
    3. Collaborates on various programs exploring vocation, theological reflection, and holistic wellness.
  4. Community Engagement and Collaboration
    1. Works closely with the Office of Community Experience and other departments to promote inclusive and formative community experiences.
    2. Engages in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and events.
    3. Represents Brite in broader campus (TCU) spiritual life collaborations, as appropriate.
    4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree
  • At least three years of experience in campus ministry, chaplaincy, or pastoral leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to theological diversity, racial and gender equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and interfaith engagement.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Ordination or standing in a denomination
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or chaplaincy training.
  • Experience with diverse liturgical planning in diverse worship contexts.

  • Knowledge of strong pastoral techniques including the ability to provide support, mentoring, pastoral and spiritual care to various populations.
  • Ability to assist in the faith and theological formation of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work independently and a part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to provide a creative approach to ministry and a collaborative presence.
  • Ability to provide a commitment to understanding of/appreciation of cultural, ethnic, religious and individual differences.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • This role is an on campus, in-person position.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
