Job summary

Radford University is seeking a Carpenter to perform carpentry maintenance and construction tasks addressing building needs for the campus community. You will report to the Carpenter Foreman and work 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with some evenings and weekends as required.

The role requires experience with carpentry equipment, power tools, reading blueprints, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ability to operate carpentry equipment and power tools.
• Ability to read and write, plan/forecast goals/objectives, organize, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow work/safety instructions, read/write work orders, handle basic mathematical calculations, comprehend/interpret documents/blueprints, and keep records/reports.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle. (A valid driver's license is required)
• Resolve carpentry-related problems, assess/evaluate for carpentry projects, work with little/limited supervision, provide recommendations, make decisions independently, maintain/repair equipment, and meet deadlines.
• Exhibit diplomacy, apply logic, observe behaviors, record/compile data, participate as a team member, develop/maintain effective working relationships, provide leadership and training to other employees, exercise judgment/discretion, maintain confidentiality, and think/respond in emergency situations.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Position designated as essential personnel.
