Job summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York is seeking a Building Engineering Manager (BEM) to lead the engineering and operations of a seven-building student housing portfolio totaling ~1,400 beds.

You will supervise a team of about 10 unionized employees, manage central plant operations, ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and high service levels for residents and staff while coordinating with campus utilities and facilities teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
• Experience supervising union trades personnel and facilities operations.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight and direction of building engineering, maintenance, and operations for a multi-building student housing complex.
• Supervise about 10 unionized employees with scheduling, training, and performance management.
• Oversee central plant operations and coordinate with campus utilities sections.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and effective project coordination with vendors.
