Job summary

The Workout Club & Wellness Center, Inc. in Salem, OR is hiring a Camp Counselor to lead a team of day campers through a weeklong summer program. You will foster friendships, ensure safety, and help maintain a positive, on-brand club environment for youth.

The role requires physical fitness, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and at least one year of experience with children. CPR/First Aid/AED certification or plan to obtain within 90 days is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be physically fit and mentally alert.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, lift, kneel, reach, handle, think, and reason.
  • At least 1 year of experience with children.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED for adults, infants, and children or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Positive attitude and professional behavior.
  • Available to work days, full-time, Monday–Friday, for the entire summer season.
  • Must secure reliable transportation.
  • State-specific licensing requirements as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of day campers through a one-week camp experience.
  • Develop youth friendships to connect each child to the camp community.
  • Complete daily opening and closing procedures and safety logs.
  • Communicate with Camp parents, team members, club members, and Camp Site Director.
  • Monitor camper safety and communicate concerns as needed.
  • Ensure camp areas are clean, on brand, and in good repair.
  • Arrange coverage for sick days and communicate planned vacation days.
  • Support other counselors with leadership development.

Job Description and Responsibilities:
  • Leading a team of day campers through their "one week" camp experiences

  • Daily written and verbal communication with Camp parents, team members, club members, and Camp Site Director
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the specific needs of the campers in your care and communicate safety or behavior concerns with appropriate parties
  • Ensure each area of the club utilized by the camp is on Brand, clean, and in good repair
  • Find coverage for sick days and communicate planned vacation days prior to the start of the season
  • Supporting standard counselors with their camp leadership development skills
Qualifications Needed:
  • This position requires a person to be physically fit and mentally alert.
  • There may be a need for standing, walking, sitting, lifting, kneeling, reaching, handling, thinking, and reasoning.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • A positive attitude and professional behavior are expected and displayed consistently in all dealings with members and/or fellow Team members
  • Must have one year of experience working with children
  • CPR/First Aid/AED for adults, infants, and children or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of being hired
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Available to workdays full time Monday-Friday and able to commit to entire summer season
  • Responsible for securing reliable transportation to and from work
  • State Specific Licensing Requirements as applicable
