Job summary

The YMCA in Blacksburg, SC is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the Food Service Team in preparing nutritious meals and maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and dishwashing area. This role assists in daily camp food service operations.

Responsibilities include washing and peeling ingredients, setting up dining hall stations, storing foods safely, sanitation of food prep areas, washing dishes, and assisting with pack outs and menu needs.

Qualifications

• Desire to work in the food service area.
• Knowledge of food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in food preparation as per menu including washing and peeling.
• Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
• Store food and leftovers at proper temperature.
• Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
• Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
• Wash all dishes, serving and preparation equipment according to regulated methods.
• Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle per camp procedures.
• Assist in preparation and packaging of food for use outside the camp dining hall.
• Review pack out requests with staff to ensure adequate quantities and variety.
• Prepare and store pack out food per camp and health code procedures.
• Advise staff on equipment or materials needed for identified menu choices.
