Assist Lead Camp Counselor in developing and implementing camp-based activities for children

and teens both with and without disabilities. Provide direct supervision and instruction for campers, ensuring all

campers have an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, interactive supervision and instruction to engage with campers during all activities, and as directed by the supervisor.
  • Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each camper.
  • Identify adaptations and/or alternative supports so that each individual may actively participate in all activities of their choice.
  • Provide transportation to and from community activities (field trips) for campers using personal and/or agency vehicles, as needed.
  • Ensure that all communication takes place in a professional manner, reflecting dignity and respect for persons served.
  • Utilize people-first language in all written and verbal communication with the campers, parents or primary caregiver, coworkers, volunteers, and other team members.
  • Attend to the daily personal, self-care needs (i.e. feeding, toileting, etc.) of campers in a timely manner and in a way that signifies respect and dignity to the individual. Requires lifting and transferring of individuals as necessary.
  • Administer medication to camper as prescribed and document such information on the medication check off sheet in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Immediately alert supervisor/manager of any potentially critical issue or crisis situation.
  • Report any suspected abuse to supervisor.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Maintain all appropriate information in a confidential and professional manner, and in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Adhere to the organization’s Code of Ethics and support of identified Position Statements.
  • Model appropriate behavior in interaction with campers served, staff, families, community resources and other audiences/customers.
  • Perform other duties as may be requested or assigned.

Requirements

To be successful, you must:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have high school diploma or G.E.D.; Bachelor’s degree and/or college coursework in special education, Social Work or other human-service related field preferred.
  • Prefer 3 months of experience in direct support service and/or working with individuals with disabilities while working in a camp or classroom setting.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and apply information from general procedures, instructions, data and reports.
