Position Overview

The Senior Camp Counselor manages a group of children, supporting supervision and activities throughout the camp day. Responsibilities include helping children adjust, forming cohesive groups, planning and delivering activities, and supporting the Camp Director and Specialists.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain professionalism and a positive demeanor as a YMCA representative; wear camp T-shirt daily.
2. Supervise campers and junior counselors, ensuring engagement and safety.
3. Assist during activity periods, learn camper names, and greet campers enthusiastically.
4. Develop positive relationships with families and promote YMCA’s mission and core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
5. Support camp themes, events, trips, and activities.
6. Encourage youth development and maintain camp cleanliness.
7. Collaborate with staff to plan activities and uphold safety standards.

Safety & Supervision

1. Attend staff meetings and complete trainings.
2. Uphold safety standards, conduct face counts, and follow risk management policies.
3. Assist with aquatic activities, ensure safety, and follow all relevant policies and standards.
4. Report incidents and concerns promptly.
5. Supervise bus activities, lead songs and games, and use positive reinforcement.

Minimum Requirements

1. High School Diploma or higher; college credits in Education preferred.
2. Understanding of youth development principles.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

5. Experience leading group activities (1-3 years).
6. First Aid, CPR, AED certifications may be required.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand long periods, supervise children actively, lift up to 30 pounds, and respond to auditory cues.
