Job summary

Camas School District is seeking a Camp Counselor Class II to support Community Education camps. Under the supervision of the CCE Coordinator and JWR Program Director, you will help plan daily activities, supervise youth, and ensure a safe, engaging environment.

You will collaborate with staff to deliver programming, maintain records, provide first aid when needed (CPR certified), communicate with parents, and participate in camp events and field trips.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.
• Must have or obtain first aid CPR certification.
• Food handler's card is preferred.
• Proof of MMR vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

• Work with Program Director/Lead Camp Counselor to implement daily camp activities.
• Supervise and manage behavior of youth and teen campers.
• Seek assistance from leaders as needed.
• Maintain camper safety and learn/implement safety procedures.
• Document accidents and provide reports when required.
• Provide first aid as needed with current CPR certification.
• Develop weekly activities for youth/teen clubs.
• Build positive relationships with campers and parents.
• Communicate camp information with parents and students regularly.
• Engage with youth, parents, and staff in daily activities.
• Participate in overall evaluation of camp programs.
• Take part in all camp events designated by leadership.
• Assist on field trips as assigned.
• Perform other duties as directed by CCE Coordinator or JWR Director.

Purpose:

Must perform various tasks to make sure that the daily activities of each camp are set up and run smoothly. Provide a safe and diverse experience to youth based on the Community Education core values: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

Essential Functions:

• 1. Work with Program Director/Lead Camp Counselor to implement camp activities for youth and teen clubs on a daily basis.
• 2. Supervise, maintain discipline and manage behavior with all youth and teen campers.
• 3. Seek assistance from Lead Camp Counselor or Program Director as needed.
• 4. Maintain safety for all campers and staff. Learn and implement all safety procedures.
• 5. Document all accidents and provide information to the Director with written accident reports when needed.
• 6. Provide first aid as needed. Must have current CPR certification.
• 7. Work with all staff in implementing weekly activities for the youth and teen club members.
• 8. Develop a positive & professional relationship with the youth & teen club members and their parents.
• 9. Communicate camp information and choices with parents/students on a regular basis.
• 10. Engage with youth and teen students, parents and staff.
• 11. Participate in the overall evaluation of the camp programs.
• 12. Participate in all camp events designated by the Program Director.
• 13. Assist on Field trips as assigned.
• 14. Other duties or responsibilities may be assigned by the CCE Coordinator or JWR Program Director.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. • Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
