Overview

Commonpoint is hiring a Counselor for the Summer of Arts and Sports Day Camp in Forest Hills. The counselor will supervise children ages 5–11 in daily camp activities and support specialists in delivering structured indoor programming including arts, sports, education, and swimming. The role includes ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment and serving as a responsible role model throughout all camp activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and actively engage campers throughout the day, ensuring a safe and positive experience.
• Assist specialists with daily indoor programming, including arts, sports, and educational activities.
• Participate in and supervise daily swimming activities.
• Maintain awareness of camper medical needs, including allergies and required medications.
• Support meal distribution and daily camp routines.
• Demonstrate patience, initiative, and strong role‑model behavior.
• Communicate effectively with co‑counselors and supervisors.
• Remain responsible and attentive during scheduled field trips.
• Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public.
• Carry out agency duties such as data collection, reporting, and documentation as required.
• Use agency resources responsibly, safeguarding equipment and materials and supporting cost‑effective operations.
• Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross‑department teams to ensure clear communication and timely task completion.

Qualifications & Key Attributes

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Ability to swim and supervise children in a pool environment daily.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in a camp or youth program.
  • Previous experience in a Commonpoint role is a plus.
  • Bilingual language skills.

Working Conditions & Job Details

Environment: Primarily indoors in a camp facility, with regular outdoor activities including playground time and scheduled swimming sessions.

Exposures: Moderate noise from children and staff; seasonal weather during outdoor activities (heat, sun, or light rain).

Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and participate in recreational activities; supervise children in and around water; lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Work Schedule: 8:30AM–4:30PM, Monday–Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required depending on camp programming.

Travel Requirements: Occasional local travel for off‑site field trips; no overnight travel required.

Camp Dates: 6/29/2026 – 9/10/2026. Location: Central Queens. Non‑Union Position. In Person.
